You were one of the millions who made Ed Sheeran the most streamed artist of 2017.

Ed Sheeran

The Year of Ed Sheeran: Divide, especially Shape of You, earned Sheeran a rare kind of global recognition and a long list of honors.
He has been nominated for two Grammies -- for best pop vocal album and best pop solo performance.
He has also received the Member of the Order of the British Empire medal.

If you still haven't heard of Ed Sheeran or Shape Of You, just under which rock have you been hiding?

According to Spotify Sheeran, with 6.3 billion streams, was their most streamed artiste of the year.

Incidentally, Sheeran's crazily popular Shape Of You, which released as a digital download on January 6 this year, has clocked over 2.47 billion views on YouTube and 1.4 billion streams on Spotify.

The album on which it featured, Divide, has been streamed 1.4 billion times, says Spotify.

Following Sheeran on the list of most streamed acts -- the top five were dominated by male artistes -- are Drake, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar and The Chainsmokers.

Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez are Spotify's most streamed female performers of the year.

The Despacito remix, co-starring Justin Bieber, was the year's second most streamed song, followed by its original version at the No 3 slot.

Sheeran, not surprisingly, also made it to the year-end topper lists released by YouTube (Shape of the You was the second most watched video after the original Despacito) and Apple Music (Sheeran's Divide ranked fourth after Drake's More Life, Lamar's Damn and Swift's Reputation).

India has a special soft spot for Sheeran following his India tour last month.

Sheeran partied with Mumbai's Who's Who -- from stars like Shah Rukh Khan to newbie celebs like Janhvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan to telly actors like Mouni Roy and musicians like Vishal Dalani. Heck, he even snuck out to spend time with hostess Farah Khan's cute triplets, Anya, Czar and Diva.

A couple of days later, he had them screaming their lungs out at his concert, held at the Jio Gardens in Mumbai.

This was his second visit to India, after his first concert in 2015.
