You know it is Onam when you see large flower arrangements outside the homes of Malayalis.

The preparations for Onam start well in advance when people scout for colourful flowers throughout the 10 days of the festival.

The flowers are neatly arranged in interesting patterns to make a pookalam (flower design) and a nilavilakku (lamp) is lit.

Onam celebrates the homecoming of King Mahabali and the pookalam is one of the many ways, Keralites welcome the erstwhile king.

Have you ever made a Pookalam? Share your photos and tell us how you did it.

Send us your Onam pookalam pictures to getahead@rediff.co.in (subject line: Onam Pics) and tell us how you celebrate the festival.

Don't forget to add your NAME, AGE and the place where you LIVE.

We will feature the best responses right here on Rediff.com.
