To start out, we have this image of the Kodaikanal Pillar Rocks -- the iconic granite rocks that rise up to 400 feet. In-between the rocks are deep bat-infested caves that are closed to public.
Shiva Kumar who shot this photo writes, "The glaring difference in temperature between Madurai and Kodaikanal was extremely evident (and pleasantly welcomed in Kodaikanal). Sadly, the tourist place is littered with plastics and waste even by educated people. So in case some people manage to read this message during the post, I request everyone, to take care of your garbage and dispose only in the waste bins provided at various places. Let us keep our beautiful places as beautiful as they are!"

Quite literally, Kalinjar means destroyer of time in Sanskrit. It is said to owe its name to the episode in the Hindu mythology where Lord Shiva, having drunk the poison after the Great Churning, comes here to overcome Kal or Time and trounces Death.
