What inspired you to become a model?

My parents are doctors as is my brother.

But I was always inclined towards modelling and the fashion industry.

When I told my father I wanted to pursue modelling, his only advice to me was to finish my graduation in medicine.

Even before the results were out and I could start practicing, I auditioned for Miss India 2011 and made it to the top 20.

Professional experience

I was a finalist in Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2011 and was Ford SuperModel Model of India 2011.

I have walked the ramp for Delhi Couture Week 2013, Wedding Times Fashion Fiesta, Marks and Spencers and India Runway week for designers like Ritu Beri, JJ Valaya, Niki Mahajan and Rinku Sobti.

Your biggest break so far

I had the opportunity to walk for L'Oreal in Paris for a hair styling event in 2011. That’s the greatest high.

Your favourite models

Among Indian models, I find Sucheta Sharma to be the fittest of them all.

I also admire Alesia Raut -- she's mentored me and several aspiring models about the right way to walk on the ramp and groomed us on our presentation skills.

What inspired you to become a model?

I never thought of it as a full-time career option until a friend of mine urged me to do a professional photo shoot.

The photographs, when posted on Facebook, got me a lot of appreciation and motivation to pursue it as a career.

I was just a little too apprehensive at the start, but now that I'm here I'd like to give it my 100 per cent as long as I can.

Professional experience

I have done TV commercials for Indian Roots -- an ethnic apparel line launched by NDTV, and participated in reality shows like Road Diaries and Video Wars for Bindass.

Your biggest break so far

It has to be Lakme. I am looking forward to meeting new people and learning from them.

Your favourite models

I'm really inspired by Alesia Raut. She's a single mother, a good human being and the way she balances both family and work is just amazing.

What inspired you to become a model?

I was always fascinated by the world of modelling and wanted to be one of them.

Whenever someone mentioned the opportunity to walk the ramp or do a photo shoot, I would jump at the thought of it.

It did not take me much time to realise that modelling is my passion.

Your first modelling assignment

I was 16 or so when I first walked the ramp for a college fashion event at NM College, Vile Parle, Mumbai.

Professional experience

I have done quite a lot of fashion shows in college and also done photo shoots for friends.

Recently I walked at the finale of the India International Jewellery Week this season.

Your biggest break so far

Lakme, definitely!

Your favourite models

Among the Indian models, I admire Ujwala Raut and Laxmi Menon.

I met Ujwala Raut at the IIJW and after talking to her for a few minutes I realised that she is a very nice person.

She entered modelling in the 1990s, has a striking face and is one of the top models in the country. Yet, she so down-to-earth and approachable -- that’s what I like about her.

Lakshmi Menon is also stunning on the ramp. When she walks, you just can't take your eyes off her.

Internationally, Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima is my favourite. She is 33 and can give girls our age a run for our money!

What inspired you to become a model?

I was three when my parents realised my passion for modelling. I have always wanted to become one as far as I remember. I couldn't be happier.

Tell us about your first modelling break.

In Australia, there are almost too many models.

I tried very hard to get representation over the years but I wasn't successful until 2009 when I finally signed with an agency.

I was 18 when I started but I was neither nervous nor apprehensive; I was determined and excited!

In 2012, I was selected for Australia's Project Runway Season 3, a casting which over 1000 models tried out for.

This TV/modelling experience made it certain for me that I desired to be a model.

The experience was one of the most difficult yet enriching one. I was working 16-hour days!

It was challenging; it played on everyone's emotions but it made me a stronger character and model and I couldn't be more appreciative!

Professional experience

This year I have been lucky enough to work with two Indian magazines: (the Indian edition of) Elle and L'affaire magazine on whose cover I was featured.

I have done a few campaigns which unfortunately I cannot list the names as of yet because they have not been released along with a TVC.

I was also very lucky to have five beautiful images in this year's The Great Indian Wedding Book

Your favourite models…

My favourite models internationally would have to be Adriana Lima, Karlie Kloss and now actress Angelina Jolie.

I cannot pick my favourite Indian model as there are too many beautiful models here!

What inspired you to become a model?

I never dreamt of pursuing modelling as a full-time vocation.

However when I auditioned for Miss India and made it to the Miss India International pageant in 2013, I decided to pursue it and give it my 100 per cent.

Tell us about your first modelling break.

My friends would always coax me to give modelling a shot.

When I auditioned for Miss India I wasn't expecting to qualify, given the competition.

It was the first time I was wearing such high heels and I was nervous when I walked.

However, by the time I made it to the finals, I had become confident and had starting liking the time I spent on the ramp.

I don’t have a lot of big dreams, but I want to be successful independent woman.

Professional experience

I have done quite a lot of shows and events -- the India Bridal Week is one of them and I'm really looking forward to the Lakme Fashion Week.

For an Indian model, it's the greatest platform to showcase your talent and I'm really excited.

Your favourite models…

As a practice, I admire only those models or personalities who I personally get a chance to meet or work with.

Among Indian models, Alesia Raut is my favourite. She's the one who mentored and groomed me into what I am today. She's a lovely human being and I owe it to her.
