PICS: Madhuri, Lara, Priety catwalk to save the girl child

Leading ladies from Bollywood expressed their support to save the girl child and upheld the cause of women empowerment through a fashion show in Mumbai.

It was a fashion event with a cause.

Stars and models walked the runway for Manish Malhotra to show support for the Indian girl child.

It was an action-packed evening: women achievers were honoured, panellists discussed the sorry state of affairs for the girl child in India -- more about that here -- and celebrities walked the ramp.

We start out with Preity Zinta, who shashayed down the ramp in a lovely peacock green lehenga designed by Manish Malhotra.

Candice Pinto took us on a vintage trip with this navy blue sequinned outfit styled by Malhotra.

Malaika Arora Khan is resplendent in this shimmering outfit as she walked for the designer to support a noble cause.

Shimmer and detail seemed like the trend of the evening.

Model Surjeet Kaur, you can see has teamed up a maroon high collared velvet blouse in shimmering zari work with a long pleated silk skirt created by Malhotra.

Evelyn Sharma wore a full-sleeved pink lehenga styled by Malhotra.

This particular twin toned saree with bright floral bordering caught our attention. 

Mandira Bedi may have started her own fashion label but that didn't stop her from walking for the master designer for a cause.

Reha Sahuja showcases this bandh gala-styled lehenga.

Model Surjeet Kaur made a second appearance, this time in a nude georgette saree with golden prints highlighted with bright yellow border.

Swara Bhaskar who recently bagged the Filmfare Award for best supporting actress (Raanjhanaa) also walked for the designer. Bhaskar wore a bright orange lehenga featuring gold embroidery.

The menswear line had rich coloured bandh galas like this one here.

Former Miss Universe Lara Dutta who has in the past endorsed several social causes also made an appearance for Manish Malhotra and upheld the cause of women empowerment. She wore an orangish pink achkan lehenga with floral motifs.

Just when people had forgotten about this leggy lass, Isha Kopikkar surprised everyone by making a significant comeback on the ramp. The former Miss India contestant wore a light pink anarkali with peach and purple hues.  

Madhuri Dixit Nene looked resplendent and every bit the showstopper as she appeared in a red and green lehenga with golden motifs and zari work.

All the leading ladies strike a pose for the cameras at the end of the show.
