A troupe from the world's best-known cabaret made its way to Mumbai for an amazing performance on October 31.
Dancers from the world-acclaimed Moulin Rouge of Paris performed at the Sofitel Mumbai BKC as part of the hotel's 'World of Accor' celebrations last night.
Seventeen performers set the stage on fire with their dazzling performances and of course the can-can, set against a backdrop of the Moulin Rouge's iconic windmill.
This event represents an occasion to celebrate the friendship between India and France and to promote tourism opportunities that Air France and the Sofitel luxury hotels (part of the Accor group) have to offer to the key Indian outbound travel market.
The renowned dance troupe is in the country for two exclusive performances, in a bid to promote the hotel's French heritage.
'A Taste of Moulin Rouge' is meant to provide India with a quintessentially Parisian experience and also aims to showcase the extraordinary romance of French culture.
And what better way to do it than with offerings from the 123-year-old cabaret, one of Paris' main tourist attractions?
PR manager for the Moulin Rouge Fanny Rabasse was quoted as saying that they receive an audience of 64,000 people each year.
The 20-minute performance in Mumbai saw three costume changes and pieces of music, samples of the Moulin Rouge's resident show Feerie. Feerie has been running since 1999 and a new show will now debut next year, in 2013.
After giving Mumbai a stellar performance, the troupe will now be travelling to New Delhi, where they will be repeating the show on November 2.
