Care for a late night dinner?

February 27, 2006 17:28 IST

We continue our reader-driven series on great restaurants and eating places across the country. This time, Firoz Latheef tells you where to get a hearty meal for two in Bangalore, into the wee hours, for just Rs 100.

I am a big fan of Imperial Restaurant in Bangalore.

I was a resident of the city for almost three years, as a student as well as a working professional, and used to dine there almost every weekend.

The food is cheap (Rs 100 for a hearty meal for two), the ambience satisfactory; the air-conditioned dining area is excellent. The best thing about this place is the quick service -- they serve you within 10 minutes of your order.

On the menu, my favourite is the Ghee Rice and Chicken Kebab. For Rs 40, you get a half plate of the latter -- five delicious pieces.

Other favourites include the Grilled Chicken, Kerala Paratha and Paneer Tikka Masala. The place is a delight for non-vegetarians, although vegetarians won't be disappointed either, thanks to the variety.

Chinese dishes are served too, but I wouldn't recommend them. What I would suggest are the Fish Curry and Fish Masala. They serve it spicy, with a very coastal Malabar flavour.

There are excellent options for breakfast, too. Try the Appam and Chicken Stew combination. Imperial opens at 7.30 am and is a popular stopover for many, even at that early hour.

It is also one of the few places open late, normally closing by 3 or 4 am. With three branches in the city (Residency Road, Koramangla and Kalasipalaya), the restaurant is also hard to miss. I can't wait to get back.
