25-year-old Pallavi Purkayastha was found molested and murdered today in her Mumbai flat. We are asking you, our readers, to offer tips on how young women can stay safe.

The gruesome murder of 25-year-old lawyer Pallavi Purkayastha has exposed just how unsafe women are in big cities.

Daughter of Indian Administrative Service officer Atanu Purkayastha, who is posted as joint secretary in the ministry of agriculture in New Delhi, Pallavi was found dead on Thursday morning at her rented flat at Wadala in Mumbai by her live-in partner Avik Sengupta, 26, also a lawyer.

According to a PTI report, the watchman of the building Sajid Mugal has been arrested on Thursday night for the murder and he has confessed to the crime.

Mugal is said to have deliberately cut-off

the power supply to Pallavi's house after which she had to call electricians to get it fixed.

The watchman had reportedly tried to molest her earlier too though the motive behind the murder remains unclear.

It is however evident that the city which was once regarded to be the one of the safest in the country for women is no longer so safe after all.
