Is Father's Day relevant in India?

Do you believe in celebrating Father's Day? Tell us! Illustration: Uttam Ghosh

There are those who are game to go along with practically any weird holiday under the sun, whether it's 'Leave the office early' day or 'Watermelon seed-spitting' week (don't believe us? look them up!).

And then there's the other side of the spectrum, where even a couple's golden wedding anniversary is met with all the enthusiasm of swallowing down a spoonful of castor oil.

Now that Father's Day is but a few days away (June 20, for the uninitiated), we want to know whether you will be celebrating with gusto or talking about all this 'Western influence' that is taking over India.

Come to think of it though, we're not exactly a nation that can afford to complain about useless holidays, though, since we'd pretty much do with any excuse to shut shop and boogey.

The amount of national holidays and regional festivals we gleefully go along with can hardly compare with taking dear ol' Dad out for dinner one night in the year (and inevitably, he ends up paying for that too).

So we want your opinion on the subject -- do you think that Father's Day is relevant in India?

Will you be celebrating with your dad or at least wishing him this coming Sunday?
