What excites you the most? Determine what you are truly good at.

Choosing a career is a tricky issue.

Whether you are an entry level candidate or someone with years of experience, the question of 'Where now?' often arises.

It is at that point that one has to sit back and think about passion, job satisfaction, and also about how worthy they are at their current company or organisation.

Perhaps, the job may be good but without a pay to match while at other times it might be the reverse. And in case both work for you, there might be the company culture to consider.

Sometimes, choosing a new career can be a good decision, but often people do not have the courage to take that leap.

In fact, many do not even get the time to think about it considering their work schedule. If you feel this like, then consider these points:

Get to know yourself

The first thing to do is to understand yourself better.

Introspect and then determine what you would truly like to do.

There are several ways to know more about your strengths and personality. And once you have done that, you will be in a position to determine your next step.

Take assessments

You might be having a tough time convincing yourself that you possess certain career or personality traits.

You could always do an assessment or test to see if you really fit into a certain category.

Tests such as Myers Brigg Personality Test or the Big Five Personality Test will help you with this.

Seek an internship

An internship will give you the opportunity to work with different people and understand how it is like to collaborate and work as a team.

At the end of the internship, you could even land up with a full time job. And in case you don't, the feedback and experience will help you elsewhere.

You will also build your own network. It gives you an opportunity to leverage your contacts as well.

Talk to various people

Experience is the best teacher. And the same holds true when you speak to people.

An experienced professional will have a lot to say on a particular subject.

Look out for the industry experts and try talking to them. Their area of work might be relevant to you.

Seek people on LinkedIn and ask for their opinion on any doubts you might have.

Think about what you are best at

A lot of people choose their careers because a friend or relative claimed it to be the best option.

However, if you aren't too good at it, chances are that you will lose interest quickly.

Determine what you are truly good at.

Does it excite you?

Will it seem more like passion than work?

Ask yourself these questions.

Analyse what kind of lifestyle best suits you

This is the one fact ignored by many.

In case you are someone who likes to lead an extravagant lifestyle, then social work wouldn't be the best option for you.

Are you someone who believes in climbing the ladder at a slow and steady pace?

Someone who doesn't mind waiting for a couple of years, to earn few big bucks?

It's how you would finally want to live that plays a major role in setting your decisions.

So in case you have been thinking about your career for a while, it's time to do your homework right away!
