The spotlight was on Indian models and fashion designers, who did not disappoint.

What a moment of pride it would have been for any Indian present at the New York Fashion Week 2016 to witness desi designers -- Bibhu MohapatraNaeem KhanPrabal GurungSachin and Babi, and Runa Ray -- showcase their talent!

But the one who clearly stole our attention was Bhumika Arora, the Indian model from Haryana.

Bhumika walked for Prabal Gurung dressed in a lovely white dress with grey motifs.

Touted as one of the busiest models at NY Fashion Week, she also strode the runway for singer Rihanna's Fenty x Puma collection.

Here are three more of Bhumika's appearances at the NYFW runway where she walked for designers Derek Lam (left), Anna Sui (centre) and Carolina Herrera.

Bibhu Mohapatra

Mohapatra surely had to go back in history to pull off this collection.

Wondering why the model has such a conniving look pasted on her face?

Well, this collection was inspired by Chinese Empress Dowager Cixi, a controversial ruler, who was known to be extremely shrewd.

Check out the other looks from the collection...

A fur jacket teamed interestingly with blue pants makes this outfit a clear winner.

A train is a must for every empress, especially for such a femme fatale gown.

China is probably the largest exporter of fur and this collection did see fur used in abundance.

Naeem Khan

This Indian designer's collection was dedicated to New York -- its architecture, life in the city, its culture, and the grand ladies of New York!

Naeem Khan also partnered with Make-A-Wish foundation and granted the wish of 11-year-old, Trinity Faith Moran, who wanted to walk in a fashion show.

Here are some of the looks from his collection.

Red, the favourite colour of the designer, seems to have transcended beautifully on the runway through this floor-length ballroom gown.

And there comes the designer walking down the ramp with 11-year-old Trinity in tow.

Prabal Gurung

The collection by Prabal Gurung was inspired by paintings by French painter Henri Rousseau and Lord Byron's prose.

It was about breaking free and escaping from the busy city to the forests.

The colour palette comprised snowy white, ivories, shades of blue, grey, black, and red.

Check out glimpses from the show.

Take a closer look at the print…

The feather motifs on the dress are inspired by the greenery in the forests.

The motifs were another prominent feature of the collection.

The magical realism of the forest comes alive in this outfit, doesn't it.

Sachin and Babi

Garnet red, ruby, blue topaz and emerald were the dominant colours in Sachin and Babi's collection that included ballroom dresses in satin, ruffled and layered skirts for the price conscious fashionista.

Real paper flowers were sent to the artisans for them to figure a way to put it on the dress and you see the result above!

The emerald in the outfit draws heavily from the precious stone that the designers had spotted on their visit to the Getty House in San Francisco.

Runa Ray

Neutral shades and natural hair; that's how we sum up Runa Ray's collection in a nutshell.

We're wondering why this collection reminds us of origami paper collections.

Check it out and let us if you feel the same...
