Chennakeshav Shenoy is mighty impressed with the Wickedleak Wammy Titan 5.
Wickedleak, which is fast making a name for itself in the power-packed smart phone category has brought the new iteration of its Titan series and boy is this a Titan? Beginning with the 5.5-inch full HD display and the 1.3 Ghz octa core processor running on a 3 GB RAM supported by a 4165mAh battery looked more than impressive but our job is to test the Titan and test it we did.
So what did we find?
Performance
The phone's processor, RAM and the Android Lollipop 5.1 is just working in sync to make the best user experience you can get in this segment. From multitasking across more than 12 programmes together including two games the phone was running hot but smooth. You will experience a bit of heat if you play Asphalt for about an hour or so but I don't know of any phone where this doesn't happen. There are no lags or phone freezes.
Design
This is quite a beautiful phone; the silvery grey bezel that lines the top and the bottom of the phone gives it a very classy look. This grey continues on the back of the phone that has a textured finish that I am not a big fan of, but whoever saw the phone immediately loved. So I guess it's a personal taste that I was not too pleased with this aspect but people seem to like it. The phone is on the larger size range with the 5.5-inch screen but it's not difficult to use. The massive battery definitely makes this phone bulky but then again that is the trade off that you should be prepared for. This is definitely a move up from the previous Titan.
Camera
Wickedleak pays a lot of attention on their camera, which I think in the ever visual world that we live in is a good thing. The clarity of daylight pictures is very good and at this price range it is more than just decent. However, in low light conditions the phone performs a little more on the average side. This is not a deal breaker however -- this is a decent camera overall.
Memory
In an ever hungry world for more space on their phone the Titan 5 is giving you the freedom to increase the memory from the paltry 16 GB inbuilt to the massive 128 GB. What you will do that I do not know, but the power of having it is immense.
Usability
The microphone is clear and the speaker has a punch that is loud enough for a four-person party. All calls I made or received were clear and had no deficiency in performance. This is something that is of use more than you can possibly imagine. All the buttons have got good feedback but the sleek nature does take some getting used to.
The data cable provided is very sturdy and a little bit stubborn, but you will be pleased with this since it will last you much longer than the thinner sleeker ones. The bigger battery will need this cable to charge your phone. You cannot borrow a Samsung charger for this phone. It will work but will not really charge your phone at the pace that you want it to.
Verdict
This phone will set you back by Rs 14k and for that price you could get some thinner sleeker phones. Though they do not have the same battery and the performance that this phone is giving you. The only other phone that comes to mind is the One Plus X but even that has a smaller battery life. It is a great phone at this price.
A Titan has arrived!
