LG made official its latest line up -- the V series -- by unveiling the LG V10 mobile phone and interestingly the company decided to do away with the curved screen.
Time to take a closer look at what this device has to offer.
No sooner had the company taken the wraps off, CEO Juno Cho entrusted the set with immense responsibility when he declared that the company expects the V10 to achieve with videography, what LG G4 did with the photography aspect.
There is no doubt that the LG V1O has its DNA inspired from the same company's acclaimed G4. The Snapdragon processor, 16 MP camera, and the 3000 mAh battery. But the company decided to do away with the curved screen.
Overall, the phone looks extremely well built, the spec sheet boasts of strong credentials and with a dual front camera set up and a secondary screen, LG V10 has garnered the much needed attention a new device seeks.
Construction
LG has made serious efforts to launch the V series with a bang, and this is evident with the phone's construction and designing aspect itself.
The LG V10 is made up of SAE grade 316L stainless steel material. This is the same stuff which is used for surgical tools as well. LG also included a Dura Guard frame all around the device, and ensured that there is a silicon Dura Skin coating at the back as well as the bottom of the device.
The last bit especially proves that LG gave due thought and took care of perhaps the most susceptible areas.
With such high class protection, it is of no surprise that the phone is a MIL STD 810G Transit Drop compliant, making it one of the few devices to pass the rigorous test by MET Laboratories.
The rear side of the phone carries a grid pattern which should assist in gripping the device. Also present at the back are the 16 MP camera with LED flash and laser auto focus module, the volume keys, as well as the finger print scanner.
Display
The front part of the phone is dominated by 5.7-inch IPS display. The QHD variant display carries a resolution of 2560 x 1440 p, resulting in a whopping 513 ppi pixel density. The display looked promising with the first glance itself, but the attention was stolen by the secondary display, which is placed directly above the main screen.
This smaller IPS screen carries the same resolution and pixel density as the primary one, but measuring a humble 2.1 inches, it is significantly smaller. LG claims that this secondary display can be made to work as 'always on' while putting hardly any stress on the battery backup.
This smaller screen can be used to display important information like time, date, weather etc. It can also be used for the notifications while the user is busy with something like say watching a movie.
The secondary screen can also be used as a launching area for the favourite apps and works independently of the main screen.
Hardware
Carrying a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset, the phone is an Octa-core device. The setup includes an Quad-core Cortex A53 clocked at 1.44 GHz, and another Quad-core Cortex A57 processor, running at 1.8 Ghz.
The graphics department is handled by Adreno 418 GPU. 4 GB of RAM should prove adequate to handle the tasks of this device.
Speaking of onboard storage memory, there is an ample amount available in the form of 64 GB. The users can further expand this by another 1 TB via microSD card.
The LG V10 makes use of the closed loop antenna tuning solution to make sure that the signals are always well received. The presence of quality DAC should bring up crisp and clear sound as well.
Connectivity
Expectedly so, LG has made the LG V10 equipped with plenty of features to make it chug along on various network. The handset is 4G enabled and carries options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (ver 4.1) and of course the NFC option has been included as well.
The phone comes with AGPS and GLONASS as well to assist with the navigation.
Camera
The dual front camera setup immediately grabs attention. The two cameras provide the advantage of clicking the 80 degree and 120 degree selfies respectively. The wider range should eliminate the need for selfie sticks.
By using some nifty algorithms, LG has enabled the phone to use all the three cameras at the same time for clicking the photographs. LG calls this the Multi View mode. Similarly, the multi view recording mode engages all three cameras for capture as well.
Speaking of the third camera, the 16 MP rear camera is something which should prove to be a delight especially for the pro users. Not only there is the laser auto focus and image stabilisation on board, V10 provides granular control for recording. Users can tweak settings like the White balance, ISO setting, shutter speed, focus, frame rate etc.
There are some smart editing options too. Users get options like creating a video from several shorter ones, 15 second auto edit, adjusting the three mics to highlight sound from preferred location, choosing aspect ratios from 16:9 or the cinematic 21:9, sharing options and lot more of such nifty tweaks.
Battery
One of the few companies in today's times which provides the advantage of a removable battery to the users, LG has kept the trend going on with the new V10 as well. A removable Lithium-Ion battery of 3000 mAh capacity powers up this beautiful device.
LG also included the Quickcharge 2.0 technology which promises to juice up the battery to 50 per cent of its capacity within 40 minutes flat.
Release
The LG V10 will be coming in Beige, White, Opal Blue, Black and Ocean Blue colour options. LG has decided to make the device available from October in Korea, followed by USA, Latin America, Asia, China and the Middle East.
