It seems like Motorola, after taking a cue from the monsoon season, has got into the mood as well. The feeling cannot be disputed after the company recently made a splash with the unveiling of three different models in the market which go by the names of Moto G3, Moto X Play, and Moto X Style.
As is the tradition, when it pours, there is chaos. The same is the case with Motorola's new offerings. In order to cater to buyers with different tastes, these mobile phones vary in their specifications, and it is indeed a hard task to to keep a track of things.
We try to unravel what exactly you must know about the Motorola troika.
Motorola Moto G3
The latest in the Moto G line of proven performers is the Moto G (third generation). The phone measures 5.59 x 2.85 x 0.48 inches and is 155 gms in weight. Motorola has come up with the latest revision with good helpings of current popular features.
The Moto G3 is the cheapest phone to offer water resistant attributes. Keeping up with the times, the phone has been provided 4G connectivity option too. Another sore point from the earlier models has been addressed and a 13 MP camera with the latest iteration makes the resume look much better.
Apart from these, the 5-inch screen with only 720 x 1280 resolution was a bit disappointing. A full HD would have been much more appropriate now.
The phone comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.4 Ghz Quad core A-53 CPU and Adreno 306 GPU. The battery has been improved and is a 2470 mAh affair now.
Buyers can purchase the phone with onboard storage of either 16 or 8 GB. Interestingly, the former variant comes with 2 GB of RAM, whereas the latter has been equipped with 1 GB of RAM.
The two models cost Rs 12,999 (16GB) and Rs 11,999 (8GB) respectively. The phone accepts microSD card upto 32 GB worth of space. Moto G3 has been made available for sale.
Motorola Moto X Play
This phone has been provided with a little bumped up specification when compared to the Moto G3. Not only is the screen worth 5.5-inch real estate, the full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 also outguns the G3. The Moto X play measures 5.8 x 2.9 x 0.43 inches and is 169 gms in weight.
It seems like Motorola has got Sony for inspiration behind the scenes, and this model too boasts of water repellent feature ingrained. This is good to see. Mobile phones are essential commodity now, and this feature should be a standard at least for premium devices.
The Moto X Play too is 4G enabled handset, and comes with a whopping 21 MP rear camera. However, Ultra HD video shooting capabilities eludes the device, and only 1080p HD recording is available. This is disappointing to see.
The phone otherwise is robust with the innards as it is powered by an Octa core 1.7 GHz Cortex-53 Snapdragon processor and is joined by Adreno 405 GPU. The 2 GB RAM is a solid affair and the phone looks well equipped.
The fabulous screen gets a 3630 mAh capacity battery with fast charging feature, which should be capable enough. Of course, only a full review will reveal the actual might of the battery pack.
The phone comes with either 16 GB or 32 GB variant respectively. The Moto X Play also accepts microSD card upto 128 GB. The phone goes on sale this month.
Motorola Moto X Style
The mightiest of the lot, the Moto X style boasts of a 5.7-inch screen with a befitting 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution. This advantage comes with a rider, that the phone is heaviest of the lot as well -- 179 gms. The Moto X style is 6.06 x 3.00 x 0.44 inches in dimensions.
It is to be expected by now that Motorola provided the water repellent feature to this variant as well, and surely, Motorola doesn't disappoint. In fact, the Moto X Style is dust resistant too.
The phone is 4G enabled and the 21 MP rear camera module shows up here again, and thankfully we get to see the capability to snag some 4K videos with the Moto X Style. The phone isn't a slouch with the innards either as a Hexa core 1.8 GHz Snapdragon processor sits pretty with an Adreno 418 GPU. The phone is aided plentifully with 3 GB of RAM. The configuration makes the Moto X style a powerhouse.
There is a bit of an unsettling surprise in store when one finds the battery capacity to be only 3000 mAh only. Hopefully the OS has been optimised nicely to allow for at least a day's back up. The fast battery charging feature has been included, but users would be happy to summon it less frequently.
The phone comes with rich amount of onboard memory and the buyers can choose from 16/32/64 GB versions. The external memory card can enhance the storage capacity by another 128 GB. This stellar phone will be available for purchase in September 2015.
All the three phone variants come with Android 5.1.1 out of the box, a dual LED flash for the rear camera, and a 5 MP front facing camera, with only the Moto X Style carrying a front wide angle lens. It will be interesting to see how robust these come out with their performances, but that assertion will require a full fledged review.
