Wickedleak Wammy Titan 4,available for Rs 15,000, is a very good bargain. More so, if battery life is of primary concern, and I bet, nothing out there is this good. But if you want a sleek phone that is light in your hands and on your pocket, please look elsewhere, says Chennakeshav Shenoy.
Before we get into the review of the phone there was a single point of focus for us while we were reviewing this phone: The gigantic battery life of Wickedleak Wammy Titan 4 is extremely impressive. Now back to the review.
Design
The phone is very solid in the hand, very ergonomic with soft rounded edges and a comfortable matte finish back. The large lens of the 16 MP rear camera fits beautifully into the back panel rather than jutting out. Clean buttons on one side of the volume rocker and power buttons are easy to access as well as use without any negative feedback.
The home button is again very solid as it should be since it is used the most after the power button. The back and the menu buttons only show up while the phone is awake.
Performance
The 1.76 Ghz Octacore processor coupled with a 2 GB RAM gets the job done without any lag and freezing. It can handle multiple applications at a time and can also toggle between them seamlessly.
The beautiful 5-inch screen is good for viewing movies, YouTube videos and the pictures that one takes using the Wickedleak Wammy Titan 4 (more on that in a bit). The in-built speakers give very clear sound and work well in an indoor quiet setting. It was not very good in an office or a party setting but then again you wanted a phone and not a boombox I am sure.
What we did frown upon is that the output even through the ear phones while very good was not very loud -- this can be a problem if you are travelling in crowds and want to drown out the noise. Sure investing in noise cancellation speakers is an option but those cost more than this phone so is out of the question.
Camera
Alright so there is a 16 MP rear camera that can capture some of the most detailed images in the daylight for you. With enough light it can be used in a crime scene for analysis (if the crime was committed in the open and there is sunlight for the pictures) however with incandescent light, read tubelights, it does not fare very well. To get crystal-like shots in an indoor setting you need to start the flash, which is not ideal for great photography.
If you want to capture great detail in the sunlight you have to consider this phone camera.
The 8 MP ‘Selfie’ camera is a treat -- some of the most detailed shots in the front camera and perhaps more details than you want in a selfie camera (pockmarks, freckles and blackheads) could be embarrassing sometimes, but it is a clear image which is nice to have. For selfie freaks this is a great buy. Video capture in full HD is a treat on this phone. Captured some of the best video shots of the waves and of the sky on this camera and were perhaps some of the most sublime shots I have ever captured.
Battery life
There is a 5330 mAH battery on this phone. To put it in perspective is almost equivalent to putting two smartphone batteries together at all times. And logically this should result in the battery lasting twice as long, right? Wrong! The battery lasts about two and a half times as much we found in the test.
The battery is a mammoth and will save the smartphone user the task of looking for a power point in every party, coffee shop, office that s/he visits.
In a full day of work I have to be on the phone about an average of fourhours and receive mails and WhatsApp through the day which means that the regular phone is drained out by the afternoon. This phone however outshines and stays with about 20 per cent to spare at the very end of the day.
Verdict
At a mind-blowing price of Rs 15,000 this phone is very good bargain. More so, if battery life is of primary concern, and I bet, nothing out there is this good. But if you want a sleek phone that is light in your hands and on your pocket please look elsewhere.
All in all we like this phone and if the weight doesn't bother you (it didn't for me) you should definitely buy one.
