First salary: How I found a job during recession

November 10, 2019 09:13 IST

We'd asked you, dear readers, to tell us what your first salary was and what it meant to you at the time.
Rediff reader Mrunal Samant, 33 reveals why her first job and salary will always be special.

In 2008 after completing my MBA, I got placed in Satyam Computers through college placement for a monthly salary of Rs 25,000.

Unfortunately, the company suffered during recession and my appointment got cancelled.

Those days finding an alternate job wasn't easy.

Besides, there is a certain social stigma attached to MBA graduates who are unable to get a job after completing their degree.

After persistent efforts I secured a job in a training firm. My first salary was Rs 10,000. It was difficult; but I did not want to give up easily.

My first job meant a lot to me.

When I received the cheque, I showed it to my dad first because he was the one who always pushed me to the next level.

Since my mother loves ice cream, I bought it for my entire family.

Later I pursued business development and simultaneously worked in human resources, upgrading my skills. Currently, I am working as a senior manager at a networking firm.
