Fashion: 2021 will be a Year of Comfort

Kunal Rawal is the designer movie stars from Shahid Kapoor to Varun Dhawan rely on.

A trendsetter and a fashion force to reckon with, Kunal sifts through the remains of 2020, and highlights the style trends that are here to stay.

In a chat with Anita Aikara/Rediff.com, Kunal lists groom trends to look out for in 2021.

According to Kunal, "The events of 2020 will play a major role in setting the mood for 2021."

"This year we'll see a lot of rebellion when it comes to fashion."

"People were quite restricted in 2020 because of the circumstances, however now they will seize the opportunity to break free and stand out."

For him, 2021 will be a year of comfort, customisation and personalisation.

"This year people will incorporate more breathable and wearable fabrics in their wardrobe," he predicts.

"They will gravitate towards pieces and silhouettes that are comfortable."

Versatile separates will receive a huge thumbs up in 2021.

"Grooms will buy pieces that they can restyle and utilise later to create multiple looks giving them value for their money."

Tone-on-tone garments generated a lot of buzz in 2020 and Kunal feels that it is one trend that is here to stay.

"Tone-on-tone outfits will almost never go out of style because they are easily reusable and will always remain a classic."

Another trend that the designer is excited about is military tones for occasion wear.

"One will get to see a lot of olives, mushrooms and different shades of grey as popular colour palettes," he says.

"Grooms will also gravitate towards darker colours like midnight navy and even deeper tones of wine for evening functions.

"Pastels will be a big trend for day functions -- you will see a lot of lilac, very subtle mint and peach, basically tones that are softer to the eye," he adds.

Be prepared to spot uptakes on traditional wedding tones like gold and ivory in the form of oxidised highlights.

When it comes to motifs, geometric motifs, micro motifs and different textures will have a major fashion moment in the New Year.

Surface textures will start to include text. "That's not the traditional way to go, but it adds a level of quirkiness to your outfit."
