Piaggio has launched yet another limited edition scooter in India, this one is called the Vespa Elegante, says Faisal Ali Khan

Vespa Elegante

Piaggio is a big two-wheeler company in Europe with an array of brands under its belt. However, the automobile company has restricted its Indian operations to Piaggio commercial vehicles and Vespa scooters. While its three-wheelers (like the Ape) are targeted at the mass market, the Vespa brand is limited to the high-end scooter segment. It's no secret that the Vespa is the most expensive scooter in India, coming at a significant premium over other scooter offerings.

Piaggio has now launched a limited edition version of its Vespa scooter in India based on the Vespa VX variant, called the Vespa Elegante. This limited edition Italian scooter is priced at a whopping Rs 78,999 (ex-showroom, Delhi), thereby appealing to a select few buyers only.

Two colours are offered: brown and white with the company offering matching accessories like helmets for these Vespas.

The Vespa Elegante gets a host of cosmetic changes to boost its visual appeal. It gets a chrome front grille, a chrome guard kit, colour co-ordinated leather finish on the twin seats and an Elegante badge on the glovebox.

There are no mechanical changes in the scooter, so you pay extra just for the slightly better styling.

Powering the Vespa Elegante is a 125cc, 3-valve, single-cylinder powerplant which outputs 10.06 PS and 10.6 Nm, matched to a CVT automatic gearbox. The scooter uses tubeless tyres and gets alloy wheels. It also has a front disc brake while the rear uses a drum.

This is Piaggio's second limited edition scooter offering in the Indian market and the Italian automaker plans to launch special editions of the Vespa every year.
