Eagerly awaited in India the Pulsar 200 SS is bound to be a massive success among bike enthusiasts, says Faisal Ali Khan
Bajaj Auto is the leader in the sports motorcycle category in India and one can recollect how the company celebrated the Pulsar outselling its rivals with the Hunto ad a few years back.
The company hasn't launched a new Pulsar for quite sometime now but did showcase two interesting concepts of its flagship model at the 2014 Auto Expo.
While the CS 400 will arrive late next year, the company will bring in the Pulsar SS 400 early next year and its smaller sibling is set to be launched anytime soon.
The Pulsar 200 SS was showcased by the company at a private meet in Turkey, which was likely done for dealers. The motorcycle displayed resembled the 400 SS to a great extent and the big differentiator was the 200SS badges at the rear.
The full faired motorcycle looks very aggressive with the sharp fairing, dual projector headlights, LED daytime running lights and dual tail lights. The motorcycle is based on the 200 NS and uses the same engine.
Although Bajaj Auto is using the 199.5cc, single-cylinder motor from the 200 NS, the company is likely to give the powerplant fuel injection. With the carb system on the 200 NS, the 200cc Pulsar generates 23.52 PS of power and 18.3 Nm of torque.
However, the 200 SS is likely to output 24.4 PS, making it slightly quicker in acceleration while also negating the extra weight due to the fairing.
Bajaj Auto has been testing the full faired Pulsars for a long time now and the wait will soon be over as the company is set to launch the Pulsar 200 SS in November.
ABS is unlikely to be offered and the expected for on-road price is Rs 1.30 lakh. The Pulsar 200 SS will rival the Yamaha R15 and Honda CBR150R in the short run while in the long run, it will rub shoulders with the Hero HX250R.
