You've just had a bouncy, healthy baby. Your happiness knows no bounds every time you lay eyes on the little cherub.

But motherhood has also made you put on oodles of weight!

Read on for homoeopathy expert Dr Mukesh Batra's solutions to new moms, on how to get back that hour-glass figure.

Dr Batra has over 30 years of experience in his field. He is the chairman and managing director of Dr Batra's Positive Health Clinic Private Limited. He is also Professor Emeritus at the College of Homoeopathy, USA, the Hahnemann College of Homoeopathy, UK, and honorary professor at the Homoeopathic Medical Association, UK.

I am 27, a mother of two kids. I now weigh 97 kgs. I was advised to take Phytolacca berry tablets -N by Dr William Schwabe. Should I? If yes, what dosage and for how long?

-- Anita

The common causes of obesity is consumption of more food than the body needs coupled with a sedentary lifestyle.

Phytolacca berry acts as a good remedy for obesity. You can take Phytolacca tablets in two doses daily before meals till the desired weight loss is obtained. Consult a specialist if this does not help you lose weight.

For better results, avoid a sedentary lifestyle. Increase your activity level. Perform aerobic exercises for at least 30 minutes a day, thrice a week. If not, then at least walk for 30 minutes every day.

Increase physical activity wherever possible. Instead of driving, walk. Climb the stairs instead of using the elevator or escalator.

Reduce consumption of food that is high in fat and sugar.

For the last four year, I have been facing a problem with my bowel movements. I experience heartburn (a burning sensation behind the breastbone).

I feel stuffed after small meals. Sometimes I cannot even finish them.

I often experience gurgling noises, often loud enough to cause social embarrassment and abdominal bloating.

On surfing the Internet, I found symptoms which seem to match those of my problem, which is refered to as Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Is there a solution for the same?

-- Milind

Get your diagnosis confirmed from your physician so that we can recommened a treatment accordingly. In the meantime, take two doses of Nat Phos 6X 2 daily till you feel better.

Keep a log of what you eat and record how you feel.

Start eating more fibre and drink more water.

It may take a while for the problem to stop, but do not give up on the fibre intake.

Since birth, the skin on my son's right hand resembles burnt skin.  An Ayurvedic doctor referred to it as hasthi charma but could not suggest any remedies.

He is now six years old and many child specialists have seen him but to no avail. Any suggestions?

-- Krishnamohan

It seems that your son has Epidermal Nevus. But to confirm the diagnosis, we need photos of the skin lesion.

I am working for a multinational for the past three years. I have been operated for sinus but still have a problem. After the operation I feel much better but experience difficulty in speaking.

I experience a pain in my throat and I cannot speak continuously for a long time.

When I talk for some time, I feel pain on the right side of the throat. A lot of saliva is then discharged and the words do not come out clearly.

-- Raul Merandez

The causes of excessive saliva production could be acidity or some medical conditions. Pain in the throat and difficulty in speaking may be because of swelling of the vocal cords. Kindly consult an ENT specialist to get it diagnosed.

You can try two doses of Aurum Triph 200 daily for seven days. If this does not help, consult a local homoeopathic physician.

Some patients find relief with the use of mouthwash and tooth brushing, but which might have a drying effect.
