Post-illness or bed rest

Bed rest and prolonged illness may also lead to excess weight. Often, genetically predisposed children recovering from illnesses like hepatitis or typhoid can gain large amounts of weight, which may persist due to the intake of high-carbohydrate diets, sweetened juices, etc. People on wheelchairs, or with medical conditions such as arthritis, joint and knee pains, fractures, etc that limit activity, often experience weight gain.
