Monsoon romance: A walk in the rain and moonlight
July 15, 2009

Do you have any special memories that were created during the monsoons? We invited Get Ahead readers to share their romantic monsoon memories with us, and we have been flooded with responses. As part of an ongoing series, we present four stories we received.

The night was young, but everything around the resort was silent except for the faint sound of the waves of the small river coming in from afar. After a prolonged shower from early afternnon, the forest was then dimly lit with the moonlight, though the moon (there was a full moon three night before) was sometimes covered with small clouds.

That was the moment I started to walk alone in the forest -- knowing for sure that she would join me soon, which she did only a couple of minutes later!

Then it was all dream -- the monsoon, the dripping trees and grass, the faint noise of the river, the dim moonlight playing truant -- and the two of us!

It was five years ago, when we were studying in school. In an off period we were standing at the gate of the school building, she and me along with a few friends, enjoying the cool breeze. It started pouring suddenly and our friends ran back to the classrooms but we stayed. She went running into the downpour and got wet. I called her back. I could barely resist going out into the rain too, but it was our principal watching us that made me call her back again.

I still remember her face, so cute. It was in school or I would have kissed her.

That was the first time she engraved the mark of monsoon in my life. Though we are not together now, I still love to get drenched in the rain -- just to remember her.

It was a day in July 2006. I had just lost my job due to some problems on June 24 and I was in love with a girl for the last 3-4 months. We had first met at my office 4-5 months before and we both fell in love.

On that day I went to meet her at Gurgaon from Delhi [Images]. I picked her up from Iffco Chowk in Gurgaon and we went to the Leisure Valley Park, Gurgaon. The weather was cloudy and romantic.

After spending an hour at the park, it started raining and everyone began to leave. We both decided to wait, on a bench under a huge tree.

The raindrops started to make their way through the leaves and we started to wet. After a couple of hours of rain, we were drenched and she started to feel very cold. I took her in my arms and kissed her for the first time. We hugged each other standing on that bench under that tree with the raindrops falling on our faces.

When the rain stopped, we walked down and hunted for a tea stall since she was feeling very cold. We had a cup of tea and I dropped her home and left for Delhi.

Now she is my wife and we have one-year-old baby too.

That was an experience that I cannot find the words to describe. The scene was heavenly -- the greenery and raining and silence.

There have been rainy seasons since that day, but that moment can never be repeated at least for the both of us.

It was an awesome day in my life.

We were just walking along the road after having dinner around 9.30 pm. The day was special since we met each other after almost a year. We cuaght up on all the gossip and after a while, we sat underneath a statue.

We discussed all the refreshing memories of our relationship -- talking for hours on the mobile, laughing and playing.

Suddenly we felt a cool breeze and within the blink of an eye it started drizzling. The droplets rolled down on us and we couldn't think what to do. She had an umbrella with her and we opened it. Suddenly both spoke at a time --"Let's walk in the rain". We walked together, but breeze was quite strong so it was difficult handling the umbrella. I had to hold it too and we came closer to each other, my hand on her shoulder. We were getting thoroughly wet but it was so pleasant and cozy.

Then we decided to go for a long drive. The atmosphere was simple superb, the drizzling rain, cool breeze and the flickering lights.

I kickstarted my bike and in no time we were on the road, speeding up. It was such fun! As we drove, she started shivering and feeling the cold. She held me from behind and put her hand across me, I could feel the warmth. I released the accelerator, the bike stopped and we kissed each other. It was heaven -- my first-ever kiss!
