A palace and a church to remember

The next morning we boarded a 10 am bus to Mysore.

After a hearty Mysore thali we set off to see the magnificent Mysore Palace. It was, to put it simply, the best palace I have ever seen. A lot of palaces disappoint you. They are more ruins than splendour. This, however, was so ornate and so colourful that it looked straight out of a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie.

We went to the adjoining museum to see the Raja's living quarters. We then bought some sandalwood, incense sticks and soap of pure sandalwood.

Soon it was 4.30 pm and our train was scheduled to depart for Bangalore at 6 pm.

Airfare for Rs 599 and less!

We had time. We hopped into a rickshaw and headed to St Philomena Church, one of the oldest churches in India. It was truly a beautiful shrine. Tall twin spires seemed to touch the sky. Inside beautiful stained glass windows and a sense of peace greeted us. We lingered as long as we could.

And then we had to rush. A top speed auto ride brought us to the station in time to board our train to Bangalore.
