Indian Railways launches e-tickets

What: Indian Railways will launch e-ticketing from August 12.

To begin with, the scheme is valid for:

~ 2005/ 2011 New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi Express

~ 2006/ 2012 Kalka-New Delhi Shatabdi Express

~ With e-ticketing, passengers need not carry the regular paper ticket.

~ A photo identity card, along with the printout of the Electronic Reservation Slip, will constitute as the necessary ticket to travel on the train.

~ The same photo identity card -- details of which are given at the time of booking -- must be carried along with the ERS at the time of travel.

How to book?

~ To book your e-ticket, log in at www.irctc.co.in and select the e-ticket option.

~ You must to give details of any one of the following photo identity cards at the time of booking: 

While travelling

~ You/ the passenger must carry the proper identity card as given during booking.

~ Your/ the passenger's name must be on the reservation chart.

~ You/ the passenger must carry a platform ticket with him.

 Forgot the ERS?

~ You/ the passenger will have to pay a charge of Rs 50 per ticket to the ticket examiner as penalty.

Important note

~ You/ the passenger will be treated as ticketless and not be authorised to board the train if your/ the passenger's name does not appear on the chart.

~ e-tickets will be available only for confirmed/ RAC tickets at this point of time.

~ If the status is WL (neither Confirmed nor RAC) at the time of booking, the ticket will not be booked.

Cancellation policy

~ e-tickets must be cancelled only through the Internet before the reservation chart is prepared.

~ The chart is normally prepared four hours before the scheduled departure of the train from the originating station.

~ Cancellation is not allowed across railway counters.

~ Cancellation will be confirmed online and the refund credited to the account that was used for booking the ticket.

~ In case of partial cancellation of the ticket, please ensure the modified ERS is printed separately.

~ For any claims on e-tickets to be cancelled after the reservation chart is prepared, please write to
etickets@irctc.co.in.

~ Please mention full details of the ticket, stating the claim.

~ IRCTC will process the claim along with the railway administration and credit the refund, as sanctioned by the Railways, to the user's account.
