15 months after arrest, Bharat Shah gets bail

The Hindi film industry welcomed the Supreme court decision to release incarcerated film producer and diamond merchant Bharat Shah on bail.

Shah was arrested in January 2001 for his alleged nexus with the underworld under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

On eight occasions earlier, Shah's bail plea was rejected by the trial court as well as the Bombay High Court. The SC had also rejected his plea for liberty earlier.

Shah was admitted to hospital on July 10, 2001 after he developed chest pain.

Cameron Diaz, Kylie Minogue at IIFA 2002?

Rumours about which Hollywood stars will be attending this year's IIFA awards have been doing the rounds.

We hear that Charlie's Angels star Cameron Diaz may make a surprise appearance at the event in Malaysia.

Kylie Minogue, who also performed at the first IIFAs in London, is rumoured to perform her Cant Get You Out of My Head at this year's ceremony.

Rousing reception for Aamir

Aamir Aamir Khan, actor-producer of Laagan, was given a rousing reception at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai on Thursday morning on his return from Los Angeles.

Aamir, who was in Los Angeles with director Ashutosh Gowarikar to the Oscars, told reporters that making good movies was more important to him than bagging awards.

Bhartiya Yuva Janata Party workers were present at the airport to receive Aamir when his flight landed at 00.30 am. Film actor Shah Rukh Khan, who had gone abroad on a personal visit, was also on board the same flight.

Amrita Rao makes her debut in Bollywood

New talent is all set to hit the marquee with Raj Kanwar's romantic film Ab Ke Baras.

The film stars veteran actor Raj Babbar's son Arya Babbar and the lovely Amrita Rao.

After modeling in ads and campaigns, this is Amrita's first step in films. In this romantic caper she falls in love with a thief, played by Arya.
