Director N Chandra denies report, may sue Mumbai publication for defamation

Vivek Fernandes in Mumbai

Film producer N Chandra opens random fire; 1 injured'

That was the headline in Wednesday's first edition of Mid-Day, the Mumbai tabloid.

And the cause of much embarrassment for Tezaab, Style director N Chandra.

The reason: A case of mistaken identity.

The director, currently out on bail for a cheque bouncing case, was taken aback this morning when he read the aforementioned report in the daily. Dale Bhagwagar, the director's publicist, says Chandra was in no way involved with the incident. Bhagwagar said the director is contemplating legal action against Mid-Day for defamation.

The newspaper has tendered an apology in its second edition. "It was a case of mistaken identity from various sources from the police down. We have already issued an apology for the mix-up and the copies are now available on the stands," a Mid-Day spokesperson said.
