The wait is over. The music of Subhash Ghai’s much awaited Yaadein is out.
Is it worth the wait? Yes.
Yaadein... supposedly inspired by the Oscar winning musical, Fiddler On The Roof, stars two of the hottest stars today – Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor, along with the Ghai favorite, Jackie Shroff.
Composer Anu Malik dazzles you with some beautiful scores, especially the title song.
Unlike Ghai’s earlier Taal, which boasted of some brilliant orchestration by A R Rahman,
Yaadein... relies on pure melody.
The album comprises nine songs and the theme music. It begins rather auspiciously with Sunidhi Chaunhan’s incredible rendition of Alaap.
Yaadein yaad aati hai is easily one of the most effective, heartwarming, soothing tracks heard in a long time. Hariharan’s soulful voice, Anu’s stirring music and Anand Bakshi’s lyrics make this truly memorable.
Another version of the same song by Sunidhi Chauhan and Mahalaxmi Iyer maintains a melancholic profile.
A little Satrangi re (Dil Se), a bit of Mehboob mere (Fiza), and generous portions of Jise tu na mila (Refugee). and you have the second track of Yaadein... Jub dil miley. To their credit, Asha Bhosle, Udit Narayan, Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan give this fancy rehashed track their best shot.
Bhangra meets Western acoustics in Chamakti shaam hai, a thoroughly enjoyable, catchy duel of words between Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik.
Kavita Subramaniam, Alka Yagnik and Hema Sardesai indulge in some good, old fashioned girl talk Eli re eli. A reasonably likeable song, though it is suspiciously similar to the strains of Kehta hai mera yeh dil (Jeans).
Kuchh saal pehle by Hariharan, which treads a nostalgic path, tends to put you in a contemplative mood. It is a melodious track that relies quite simply on the dafli.
It’s heartache time with Aye dil dil ki duniya mein with Sneha Pant and KK. Incidentally, KK is fast getting slotted into the lovelorn songs category. Proof: Tadap tadap (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam), Mujhe kucch kehna hai (Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai), Koi meri jaan le (Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega), to name a few.
Chanda taare by Sukhwindara Singh and Kavita Subramaniam, is high voltage, packed with loads of emotions and drama. Impressive, this one.
And finally, the theme music of Yaadein..., which makes for good hearing.
Yaadein... might not be a classic, but the music lingers in your memory for a long while.
