The 73rd Annual Academy Awards night. Otherwise known as The Oscars night.

The verdict is out. On Sunday, March 25, at Los Angeles, testimonies to cinematic excellence and triumph were announced.

Host Steve Martin called upon a host of stars, from Tom Hanks, Russell Crowe, Annette Bening, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, Winona Ryder among others to present the awards.

Stunning performances came from Sting -- with My funny friend and me, he performed for the first time at an Oscar night; Norwegian singer-songwriter Bjork -- who made her film debut in the year 2000 with Dancer In The Dark. She sang I've seen it all; Bob Dylan, who performed live all the way from Australia, cellist Yeoh Yeoh Ma and violinist Yitzhak Perlman.

The winners of the day: Russell Crowe (Best Actor); Julia Roberts (Best Actress); Steven Soderbergh (Best Director); Gladiator (Best Film).

But the sentiments of the day were aptly expressed by director Steven Soderbergh: "I thank anyone who spends part of their day creating, sharing their experience with us. I think this world would be unliveable without art."

Amen!
