In a bid to regain lost ground in Uttar Pradesh [Images], the Congress has fielded actor Salman Khan [Images] for the party's election campaign.

Salman on Sunday arrived in Unnao, in a helicopter from Lucknow [Images], to attend a Holi Milan function organised by Congress candidate Anu Tandon.

During the interaction with his fans, who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the actor, Salman asked them to vote according to their conscience.

He also asked the crowd about their problems and told them that Tandon will solve them.

The Bollywood actor also sang songs from his film Mujhse Shadi Karogi and No Entry [Images] for his fans and danced to the tune of Holi songs.

At present, Unnao parliamentary seat is in the Bahujan Samaj Party's fold and Samajwadi Party also has a strong presence there.

"This is the election season, therefore I would like to tell you that vote for the candidate who is willing to do something for you people selflessly," Salman said.

Though the actor refrained from making a direct comment in wake of the model code of conduct, he, while indicating towards Tandon, said that she was capable and willing to serve the people of Unnao.

Even as the crowd cheered, the actor told them "it feels good when you see every face gleaming with happiness. Work hard and enjoy life. A person cannot achieve anything without hard work. But please vote".

The actor is scheduled to take part in several party functions in the district.
