Just a day ahead of the closure of nominations for the May 8 state assembly polls, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee released its manifesto on Wednesday, claiming it to be a document focussing on people's welfare.

The manifesto highlighted the achievements of the United Progressive Alliance government at the centre and what the government would do for the state and the country in future, TNCC president M Krishnaswamy, told reporters at the party headquarters.

He also expressed confidence that the Democratic Progressive Alliance would emerge victorious in the polls and its head, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief M Karunanidhi, would form the government.

The manifesto claims that All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has led the state into 'debt trap' by allegedly borrowing huge amounts as loans from global financial institutions. 'The interest liability for these loans would become an unmanageable burden cast on the poor people of our state', it said.

The manifesto says that the 'onerous task of providing an efficient administration which guarantees every section of the society its due share cannot be left to a single egoistic individual like Selvi J Jayalalithaa'.

A well balanced political dispensation, which represented every section of the society 'guided and nutured by sincere and dedicated leaders and workers of various political parties and genuine concern for the people alone can deliver the goods to the people of Tamil Nadu', the manifesto said.

Former TNCC president Kumari Ananthan, K V Thangkabalu and senior party leaders were also present.
