Karunanidhi has assets worth Rs 22 crore

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M Karunanidhi owns property and shares worth about Rs 22 crore, the asset declaration given by him while filing nomination papers Monday for the May 8 Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu revealed.

He has deposits in various banks to the tune of Rs.17.98 crore. His wife Rajathi Ammal has three holdings of land in the city, valued at Rs 3 crore.

Jewellery valued at Rs10.58 lakh was also owned by Karunanidhi and his wife Rajathi Ammal.

While filing papers from the Chepauk assembly segment in the city, he also revealed he held shares to tune of Rs 20.76 lakh in Tamizhkani publications, owned by his daughter Kanimozhi besides shares of Rs.5.41 lakh in the city-based 'Royal Furniture'.

He also owns two cars and 21 cents of land in Madakulam village in Madurai district.

He also owns 50 per cent shares in Anjugam publications, which was not valued.

His stakes in the film distribution industry also was not valued. Further, he is facing five defamation cases, a case under TESMA Act for supporting the strike of state government employees and another case relating to "hurting the sentiments of Hindu devotees".
