Sarat Kumar joins AIADMK

April 17, 2006 14:36 IST

Tamil Nadu MP and actor R Sarat Kumar, who resigned from the DMK recently, and his actress wife Radhika joined the AIADMK Monday in the presence of party chief and state Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Kumar called on her at here residence here, where she is staying for the past three days while campaigning in the district, and enrolled himself as a party member.

Kumar resigned from the DMK on April 10, alleging that he was insulted and humiliated by members of Karunanidhi's family.

Sources said that the actor, a relative of media baron Sivanthi Adithan, had been nursing a grouse against the DMK for not considering him for a ministerial post at the centre.

The actor, who had been initially with the AIADMK, switched over to the DMK in 1996 and was given a ticket to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Tirunelveli in 1998, but was defeated. He was later elected as a Rajya Sabha member in 2001.
