TN: PMK men ransack MDMK office

April 11, 2006 14:21 IST

Alleged Pattali Makkal Katchi workers late on Monday night ransacked the Karur district office of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Police said trouble began when MDMK men held a demonstration in front of the PMK office demanding an apology from its Secretary Bhaskaran for the 'derogatory' remarks he made against MDMK chief Vaiko at a recent party meeting.

The MDMK workers dispersed peacefully after police intervention.

Later, armed with lethal weapons, the PMK volunteers led by Bhaskaran stormed the MDMK office and ransacked it.

Two MDMK men inside the office managed to escape unhurt.

Tension prevailed when the MDMK men along with AIADMK volunteers held a 'road roko' demanding the immediate arrest of Bhaskaran and his men.

After intervention from party functionaries, the MDMK workers withdrew the agitation in the early hours of Tuesday. Police pickets were posted in sensitive areas.

Police have registered cases against Bhaskaran and his men under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The PMK volunteers also filed a complaint against the MDMK men.
