Congress wins Ratabari bypoll in Assam

Congress candidate Kripanath Mallah on Saturday won the Ratabari assembly by-election in Assam defeating his Bharatiya Janata Party rival Sambhu Singh Mallah by 31,170 votes.

The Congress candidate got 49,104 votes, while his opponent got 17,934, election office sources said from Ratabari in Karimganj district.

Polling was necessitated following the death of independent MLA Ratish Ranjan Choudhury.
