Acting chief of JKLF detained
along with supporters

Election 2002 Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front acting chairman Javed Ahmed Mir was on Tuesday detained in uptown Srinagar along with some of his supporters after he attempted to take out an anti-poll rally.

Mir was picked up from outside the JKLF headquarters in Maisuma locality from where he attempted to take out the rally, police said.

Even during the first phase of polling on September 16, Mir had been detained on a similar charge.

Inspector General of Police (Kashmir range) K Rajendra Kumar had earlier made it clear that nobody would be allowed to prevent people from voting.

Meanwhile, president of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir Anwar Khan has said that the elections will not solve the Kashmir problem.

In an interview to The Washington Times, Khan said he was against terrorism and called for a peaceful solution to the Kashmir issue.

He dismissed India's charges of infiltration into J&K from across the Line of Control saying, "If infiltration is on the increase, why can't they catch these people?"

"I am a former military officer. I know that if you can see a person (infiltrating), you can kill him," the former major general insisted.
