Polling in the second phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir began on a very dull note with voters in downtown Srinagar not showing any enthusiasm though the turnout in rural areas was better.
Only 10 voters exercised their franchise in the Burn Hall School polling booth in Srinagar where Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and other members of his family cast their votes.
Ganderbal in Srinagar district, from where Omar Abdullah is seeking election, registered 150 votes in the first two hours, Hazratbal 100, Zadibal 50 and Amirakadal 50, official reports said.
In Kangan assembly constituency in Srinagar district, voters had thronged the polling booths much ahead of the scheduled time of 0700 hours IST, the reports said.
Polling was brisk in the Chrar-e-Sharief assembly constituency in Budgam district where Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather is seeking re-election.
Four of the five constituencies in Budgam district of central Kashmir registered 581 votes in the first two hours.
Chadoora, which is witnessing a keen contest between the National Conference's Ali Mohammad Dar and Javid Ahmad Mir of the PDP, registered 54 votes, while Budgam where Aga Mehmood and his nephew, Aga Syed Roohullah (NC) are in the fray, registered 168 votes, 0900 hours IST, official sources said.
In Jammu district, about nine per cent polling was recorded in six constituencies in the first two hours, officials said adding, polling was peaceful.
About 15 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise in Marh constituency in the first two hours, nine per cent in Chhamb, eight per cent each in Vijaypur, Raipur-Dumana and Jammu-West constituencies and five per cent in Akhnoor segement.
