Mangat Ram Sharma, a Congress leader from Jammu region, is likely to be the party nominee for the post of deputy chief minister in the People's Democratic Party-Congress-led coalition government.
PDP chief Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, who is from the Kashmir valley, will be the chief minister.
Party sources said Sharma, who has been elected from Jammu West, is a prominent leader from the state and had served as minister in different governments.
If the Congress leadership decides to give the deputy chief ministership to the valley, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed would be the likely nominee for the post. But in the interest of regional balance, the deputy chief ministership in all likelihood may go to Jammu region.
Peerzada, a former Youth Congress president, was elected for the second time from Kokernag constituency in Anantnag district.
The sources said J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president, Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is also the Congress legislative party leader, could be made chairman of the coordination committee of coalition partners, which would monitor implementation of the common minimum programme.
