The Congress and the People's Democratic Party have almost resolved their differences and are moving towards forming a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, a PDP source said on Wednesday.
"There has to be better sense. I am confident that both the Congress and the PDP have realised that their differences could only serve the political objectives of their rivals," he told rediff.com on condition of anonymity.
"There have been tussles over the chief ministership in the past as well. The problem is that the media is seeing these differences in the open for the first time. If you closely study the political history of the state, for the last fifty years it has always been a fight for the top slot...," he said.
He said if Friday's talks between PDP chief Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and Congress president Sonia Gandhi succeed, the two parties would form a government next week.
In a related development, People's Democratic Forum leaders Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami and Ghulam Mohiuddin Sofi met Governor Girish Chandra Saxena.
"We informed the governor that our group of independent candidates is willing to extend support to the Congress-PDP combine once they stake claim...," Sofi told rediff.com
