Still hopeful that the Congress would not close its doors on them, the People's Democratic Party has convened a meeting of its MLAs on Wednesday to discuss the strategy on efforts to form a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sending yet another feeler to the Congress that it was keen to end the political stalemate in the state, PDP vice-president Muzaffar Hussain Baig said it would be unfortunate if the alliance did not fructify.
"It would have been an ideal combination as the Congress has got the mandate in Jammu and we in Kashmir," Baig told PTI in Srinagar.
Referring to the stern stand of the Congress leadership, especially state unit chief Ghulam Nabi Azad, on the chief minister's post, Baig said, "We hope that Congress leadership shows sagacity to avoid a confrontation."
On the possibility of Governor G C Saxena agreeing to install a minority government, Baig said, "The governor should keep all constitutional provisions in mind before deciding on whether to invite a minority government. But he will not be transgressing his powers, if he does so."
