PDP hardens stand before Congress meet

Election 2002 Hours before Congress president Sonia Gandhi's meeting with senior party leaders to discuss government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, the PDP on Tuesday said it was ready to sit in the opposition if its demand for heading the coalition was not accepted.

"We are ready to sacrifice power and sit in the opposition if our demands are not accepted by the Congress," PDP vice-president Mehbooba Mufti told PTI in Srinagar.

While reiterating the party's desire to form a coalition government along with smaller parties and independents, Mehbooba said the PDP would not compromise on its stand on regional aspirations.

"There will be no compromise that the alliance should be led by the PDP," she said.
