Manmohan meets Mufti, no indication
of breakthrough

Election 2002 Congress leader Manmohan Singh on Monday held a second round of talks with People's Democratic Party chief Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, but there was no indication of any breakthrough in the deadlock over the issue of government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.

After a 90-minute meeting, Singh left for Delhi along with J&K Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ghulam Nabi Azad to brief the high command.

"I will only say that some suggestions have been made. A decision will be taken only after briefing the Congress high command," he said when asked if the deadlock was over.

"Some points were put forward by Sayeed and some by the Congress. Now let us see what happens," Singh said.

Singh refused to say what had transpired in the meeting. "We have discussed everything and that is all I can say."

Later, PDP vice-president Muzzafar Hussain Beig said the talks were held in a congenial atmosphere and progress was made on the issue of a common minimum programme.
