Azad cancels trip to Delhi

Election 2002

The Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday cancelled his visit to Delhi, where he was scheduled to hold talks with the All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi on the formation of government in the state.

The party's talks with the People's Democratic Party for the formation of a coalition government have run into trouble with both keen on occupying the chief minister's chair.

J&K Governor G C Saxena on Wednesday extended the deadline for government formation to October 21.

Azad was scheduled to leave for Delhi in the afternoon but called off the visit to hold a series of meetings with his MLAs.
