Sonia to discuss J&K govt formation with Azad

Election 2002 Fakir Chand in Bangalore

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday said she would meet the party's Jammu and Kashmir unit chief Ghulam Nabi Azad in New Delhi on Thursday night to discuss the various options before the party to form a coalition government in the state.

"I cannot say anything beyond this as I am yet to have the details of Azad's meetings in Srinagar [with prospective coalition partner the Peoples Democratic Party] during the last couple of days," Sonia replied when asked whether the Congress was firm on heading a coalition government.

She declined to comment on the present deadlock in the formation of the new government and the failure of the secular parties in arriving at a consensus on who should be the new chief minister of the border state.
