IN A GRENADE ATTACK BY MILITANTS ON HIS RESIDENCE ON THE
OUTSKIRTS OF SRINAGAR TODAY, OFFICIAL SOURCES SAID.
MILITANTS THREW A GRENADE AT THE RESIDENCE OF GANAI, WHO
UNSUCCESSFULLY FOUGHT THE JUST CONCLUDED ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS
FROM KANGAN CONSTITUENCY, AROUND 6.30 PM, THEY SAID.
THE GRENADE EXPLODED IN THE COMPOUND OF HIS RESIDENCE
WOUNDING GANAI AND HIS FOUR SECURITY GUARDS, THE SOURCES SAID.
A HUNT HAS BEEN LAUNCHED BY POLICE AND SECURITY FORCES TO
NAB THE MILITANTS INVOLVED IN THE ATTACK, THEY SAID.
NO MILITANT OUTFIT HAS CLAIMED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE
ATTACK SO FAR.

One ultra killed, girl injured in gunbattle
Srinagar, Oct 11 (PTI) A suspected mercenary was killed
and a girl injured in a gunbattle between militants and
security forces in Baramulla district of north Kashmir today,
official sources said.
The gunfight broke out when Rashtriya Rifles troops
raided Khawaja Sahib locality in old Baramulla town following
information about presence of Lashker-e-Toiba militants, the
sources said.
On noticing the troops, militants opened fire and tried
to escape from the thickly populated area, the sources said
adding, the troops retaliated and in the ensuing gunbattle one
militant was killed.
A girl, identified as Shabnam, was injured in the
shootout and was hospitalised, the sources said.
The operation in the area was still continuing when last
reports were received, they added.
Six militants killed, NC leader escapes bid on life
Srinagar, Oct 11 (PTI) Six militants, including a
self-styled supreme commander of Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami,
were killed and two Special Police Officers injured since last
evening in Jammu and Kashmir, where a National Conference
leader escaped a bid on life, officials said.
HUJI commander Azad Hussain Zargar alias Bilal Sidique
was killed in an encounter with BSF at Phrambu village in
Gadool area of Anantnag district early today, a BSF spokesman
said. Bilal, a resident of Kishtwar area of Doda district, was
confronted by the troops of 77 battalion when he was shifting
to his hideout. He was asked to surrender, but he opened fire
and was killed in the retaliatory action. An ak rifle, a
wireless set and some ammunition were recovered from him.
Describing his killing as a major breakthrough, he said
Bilal took over as supreme commander of HUJI two months back
immediately after the killing of Rafiq Lone alias Abu Harera
in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar.
He was a Pakistan-trained militant and was involved in
large number of militancy-related incidents, including
killings of civilians and securitymen, during the past over
10 years, the spokesman said, adding his involvement in the
snatching of seven rifles from Village Defence Committee
members from Shingpora Chataru in Kishtwar area of Doda has
also been established.
In another major encounter, three militants were killed
by the security forces at Dhomgali in Budhal sector of Rajouri
district in Jammu last night.
