The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, welcoming the results of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, said it would continue its agitation for the state's reorganisation, including statehood for the Jammu region.
"It [the results] is a clear mandate against the National Conference and we welcome it," RSS joint spokesman Ram Madhav told reporters on Thursday.
Asked about the poor performance of the RSS-backed Jammu State Morcha, he said, "The front was formed only in the second week of July. We had nothing at stake. Of the nine seats we contested, we managed to secure one."
Ram Madhav claimed that the victory of four J&K National Panthers Party candidates, one Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, one Jammu State Morcha candidate, and three independents reflected general acceptance of the demand for Jammu's statehood. He also claimed the support of the two legislators elected unopposed from Ladakh.
Criticising the Peoples Democratic Party's stand on holding a dialogue with the militants, he said, "They [the PDP] should remember that the people risked their lives and defied calls for boycotting the polls. People have rejected the secessionists and challenged the terrorists."
