The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples' Democratic Party would try to work out a coalition with like-minded parties to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir, party vice-president Mehbooba Mufti said on Thursday.
"The PDP would work with parties, who want to put an end to the bloodshed and solve the Kashmir issue peacefully and in a dignified manner," she said.
Asked if her quitting the Congress to float her own party would come in the way of a coalition with that party, Mehbooba said the main reason for leaving the Congress was the rejection of her demand for unconditional dialogue with separatists. "And now even Congress president Sonia Gandhi has advocated it during her election campaign," she said.
The PDP leader hoped for a 'dignified and honourable' settlement of the Kashmir issue, since Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has said the Centre would hold talks with the new representatives of Jammu and Kashmir.
Asked if she was in the race for chief ministership, Mehbooba said, "We have a galaxy of leaders for the post. It is not necessary that Mehbooba Mufti should be the next chief minister."
