Congress retains Ajmer (west) assembly seat

Ruling Congress retained the Ajmer (West) assembly seat with Nanak Ram Jagat Rai defeating BJP candidate Lacchmandas Tilwani by a margin of 4651 votes.

While Rai polled 24,314 votes Tilwani got 19,663 in the by-election.

All the six independents in the fray lost security deposits. The by-election was caused by the death of revenue minister Kishan Motwani last year.
