Nearly 30 per cent polling till
afternoon in Andipatti

Polling in the high-profile Andipatti assembly constituency in Theni district of Tamil Nadu, where All India Anna DMK chief Jayalalithaa is a contender, has been progressing smoothly.

Till afternoon, nearly 30 per cent of the 2.09 lakh voters had exercised their franchise.

Official sources told reporters at the secretariat that polling was peaceful.

Only at one booth in Rajagopalanpatti, there was a problem with the functioning of the electronic voting machine, they said, and added that "the problem was soon set right."

There are 24 candidates in fray in Andipatti, 20 of them Independents.
