Kanpur DM orders arrest of 17 erring polling officers

The district magistrate of Kanpur on Wednesday ordered arrest and registration of FIR against 17 polling officers for not reporting for election duty.

Issuing the order, District Magistrate Sabha Raj Singh said dereliction of election duty would not be tolerated and warned of strict action against erring officers.

Singh said he had asked all polling staff to report to the sector magistrate at their respective centres by February 17 evening.

Meanwhile, severe hail storms lashed the twin districts of Kanpur City and Kanpur Dehat (rural) further intensifying the cold wave conditions claiming five lives and disrupting power and water supplies for over 40 hours, police said on Wednesday.

Several parts of the twin districts remained without power and water for over 40 hours, they said, adding the communication system was also badly hit.
