BJP leading in Godhra, Rajkot II
December 15, 2002 08:29 IST
Counting of votes for the Gujarat assembly polls began on Sunday morning amidst tight security. Strict security arrangements have been made to ensure smooth and peaceful counting, which is being held in district headquarters all over the state.
The entire process is expected to be completed by 1400 IST since Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been used throughout Gujarat.
Election to the lone seat of Surat City (West) where polling has been countermanded following the death of BJP
candidate and Minister of State for Law Hemant Chapatwala would be held on January nine.
All counting centres in the state have been computerised and equipped with phone and fascimile connections, for quick
release of results.
Results will also be displayed continuously on a special electronic display board at the main centre.
In the first trends available, Harish Bhatt of the BJP was leading in Godhra, Vajubhai Vala of the BJP was ahead of his rival in Rajkot-II and Anuj Patel of Congress was ahead of his BJP rival in Vadodara (Rural).
The ruling party was trailing in riot-hit Kalupur and Naroda constituencies.
